MEMORIES OF MUNDUK – OVERNIGHT

Tour Overview

High up in the hills, hidden far far away from the crowded beaches of Kuta, there exists a serine place where the fresh rivers flow and the air is sweet. This is the highland regency of Munduk and it’s by far our favorite place to go chasing waterfalls. So pack your swimmers and lace up your hiking boots because on this nature filled excursion you’re bound to get a little wet.

We begin our day by warming our engines and setting out from our home base in Canggu, weaving through both narrow village backstreets and rural farmland tracks, observing traditional morning routines of the local people along the way. The only toll here is a wave and a smile.

A Spirited Estate

After our morning warm-up through the farmlands will stop for breakfast at a grand estate situated on the forested slopes of Batu Karu and will be greeted with cool towelettes and welcome drinks on arrival. Here we have the opportunity to tour the facilities and discover that it surprisingly houses a world class distillery and produces a very high quality local spirit.

Into the Woods

After topping up our energy levels we will continue on our journey along the gentle winding forest roads and through the Western foothills of Batu Karu towards the Munduk highlands. This part of our route has a few off-road patches so we’ll need to keep our senses tuned and reduce our speed to a slow but steady pace.

The Lake Temple

Around mid day we will stop to stretch our legs and take in the beautiful sights of Danu Tamblingan with her impressive Balinese temple centerpiece which at certain times of year sits completely surrounded by water. Here we can enjoy our lunch by the tranquil shoreline and an optional boat ride around the lake.

Oasis in the Fields

Just a short ride from lake we will find our lodging and upon reaching our destination we will be greeted with cool towels and welcome drinks before we can finally hang our helmets and kick off our boots. Either enjoy some free time in the afternoon relaxing by the pool with a fresh coconut or take a stroll through the paddy fields and visit a traditional family coffee roastery close by.

Secret Waterfalls

In the morning of our second day, just after breakfast we will prepare for our next activity and commence on a short nature trek to one of Bali’s best kept secrets, a local waterfall which is seldom visited by your average postcard seeking tourist. We highly recommend basking in the refreshing waters for a fully revitalizing experience!

The Long Way Down

After our short trek back from the waterfall and feeling fresh, we’ll once again ready ourselves to continue on to the next stretch of our journey. From here we will emerge from the jungle path and ride gradually back down towards the coast, enjoying the gentle roller coaster of twists and turns and epic ridgeline views along the way.

Lunch by the Sea Side

It should be just about lunch time as we round our half way point and there’s no better place to spend it than with an amazing ocean view. Enjoy the fresh catch of the day while watching surfers play in the waves and feel the salty sea breeze with an umbrella in your drink. After all our hard work we will surely deserve it!

Finish Line – Canggu

The final stretch of our tour takes us only an hour or so, back to our home base in Canggu in plenty time to enjoy sunset at the beach accompanied by a round of ice cold beers and celebratory cheers!
